When learning a new skill, we start from a blank slate and our minds appear be more open to assimilate new possibilities. As we advance away from our starting point, we process additional information through the lens of what we have already learned and now say we know. We can have a tendency to value our existing sources and knowledge more than newly uncovered information.
Most people don't seek new information, and prefer validating information. It's impossible to know what you don't know, but if you seek you may stumble upon something contrary to what you think you know. Approach new information as if you are beginning the challenge of learning a skill.
