Story: Unlocking Creativity

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”
–Scott Adams, creator Dilbert

Creativity is the engine we use to build our world. With it we create works of art, music, buildings, machines, and many other things. It is a special blend of intelligence, imagination, and insight that delivers extraordinary results. With it, humans have transformed the world and the human condition. Yet it remains a mystery to most of us, even those of us that use our creativity to earn a living.
Many musicians ask, what is the secret to creating consistent creative output? One of the most commonly offered insights into the creative process includes creating a time a space where you can go everyday to do your creative work. While that sounds counter to the popular myth of an artist waiting for inspiration to strike, the best way to produce consistent results is to schedule daily time in your space to work on your art.

Some tips. First, find the time of day when you feel most creative and set that as your creative time. Secondly, make sure other people in your life know when it is your creative time and ask them to respect it. Lastly, don't be critical of what you produce, the goal is consistent effort and output. Eventually, if you stick with it, you will get results. Experiment. Find out what works for you.

Bottom Line: Schedule time, consistent effort produces results.
