Artist: Sid Griffin's Tuscany Workshop

Sid Griffin is teaching a songwriting and performance guitar workshop this May 26 to June 1 in beautiful Tuscany, Italy. Sid will focus on Long Ryders songs and you will not, want to miss out.

With Sid's guidance, students will dissect Sid's Long Ryders songs, discuss how they were written, learn about performance skills and confidence, and discuss guitars, guitars, guitars!

Says Sid, "I’m running a workshop in Tuscany, focusing on learning and playing songs from the Long Ryders’ Native Sons album, some other Sid Griffin written Long Ryders tunes, and possibly other tracks which have influenced me through the years.

"After attending workshops myself for bluegrass music and songwriting it became a dream of mine to have a workshop with true fans and friends, discussing and playing some of my own music, eating and drinking fantastic local Tuscan food and drink, hanging out by a beautiful infinity pool watching the stars go by at nighttime. Now it seems this is going to come true in May 2024.

"I hope you will come join me for what I believe will be a fantastic, and possibly musically life changing, experience."

Only three spaces are left so please check out the brief video on the workshop and sign up soon!

Story: Humility Makes You Stronger

Once you think, “I’m better than you,” you stop improving. Not an ideal situation if what you think you’re better at is what you aspire to do with your life. A sense of superiority can be a sign of weakness. It's a way to protect ourselves from information that conflicts with our self-image. It’s a protective cocoon that we spin around ourselves to not see what we don’t want to see. Meanwhile, a healthy dose of humility shows strength and courage. To be open to facts and outside information, and have a willingness to reexamine your ideas shows you have confidence in yourself.

When an athlete is training, she soon understands there is not a static state of “being in shape.” When in training, your fitness level is either improving or declining. Modern science has helped us understand better how the body responds to work loads and conditioning so as to be better prepared to manage future work loads. I believe our mental and cognitive ability responds the same way. You're either putting in the practice time and improving, or skipping and declining. If you start thinking, “I’m better than you,” you can give yourself a false sense of security that maybe you don’t need to practice today.

Very few of us will get to be the star of the show, the main attraction, or the primary reason that people come to hear the music. Is each of us an integral part of music? Yes, but the reason, and this might be hard to take for some, is that most of us are mainly grunts. Most of what we play can be copied and played by others. And no matter how long the list of your credits and the number of tours, most of us non-stars can be replaced.

It is only with humility that you can see that what you know today was only good enough for yesterday. There is always something new to learn today that will be necessary for your continued survival and ability to thrive tomorrow. If you can’t find something new to learn each day, then maybe you aren’t looking hard enough. What keeps you from understanding that new and important information can come from any source might start with your attitude. With a bit of humility, you can become more open. Only with openness can we learn. When we learn, we grow, survive, and only then, thrive.

Bottom Line: Be like bamboo. The higher you grow, the deeper you bow.
