J.P. Cervoni
BIO
Says J.P., “I first started to copy licks from Rory Gallagher, Mike Pinera, Paul Kossoff, Eric Clapton, Leslie West, and what I got from them was two folded, ONE, the guitar-into-distorted-amp thing, TWO, more important, the phrasing that was part of their style, which for me, was coming from the blues. Learning their licks felt like "going to school" with people that, being bit older than me, where coming from the teaching of BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy and like guitar masters, and I always felt that I was getting the best of both worlds, making the Blues-Rock connection, Then, after getting hold of Jimi’s and Page’s albums, I went one step further, in understanding how much you could really do with a guitar. From there on, going through Jeff Beck, I developed the virtuoso part of my playing and landed where I am now, a mix of classic blues, with a rock edge and extra licks to keep things interesting.”
J.P. grew up in a musical family in Italy that always encouraged him to further his musical interest. At the age of 12, J.P. started his musical career playing keyboards for a Top 40 band and at age 15, switched to the electric guitar after seeing an English band playing Led Zeppelin. At 18, J.P. moved to Toronto, Canada and studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. While at school, J.P. went to a Buddy Miles concert in London, Ontario. Buddy was so impressed with J.P. playing and knowledge of Hendrix songs that he invited J.P. to jam with him the following night. Buddy then asked the J.P. to join his band, so at 21, J.P. moved to Los Angeles.
J.P.’s new band is the Hendrix Disciples. Not since Jimi Hendrix passing has there been a band that can truly deliver “THAT” Hendrix sound. After seeing Hendrix Disciples perform, the “Jimi Hendrix Foundation” has chosen this band to represent Jimi’s music to the World. Music with explosive power soul that only Jimi brought to rock has been captured by Hendrix Disciples.
“JP is the only player after Jimi that kicked my ass!!”
-The Legendary Buddy Miles
J.P. uses the Rockready Volo gig bag, Dr J Shadow Echo, and the Mooer eLady and Noise Killer.
Welcome on board, J.P.!
