What guitarists are saying about Pickboy Metacarb
"I've been a pro player for many years. Tried tons of different picks. This is the only one I found that does it all. Gives you a better tone. Give them a try..."
-Louis Esposito
"Very good pick... the best part about it is the tone it produces. I happen to believe that a pick is an important and inexpensive piece of the tone puzzle. I find myself going to this pick more and more."
-M. Pizza
"I've always been a fan of meta carbonate picks, they have a gritty texture as you play and create a nice tone"
-Fred
"Outstanding tone and good value"
-Patrick McVay
"These are my favorite picks. The material provides a good attack, they have a thinner pick feel, and less attack contact surface on the strings. I like the sharper point. These work the best for me."
-Wade Stone
"These picks are made of great material that is lightweight and rigid, yet with just the right amount of flex to them...they also have the perfect pointed tip."
-Blob-A-Booey

One of Pickboy's most sought after picks just got a bit easier to find. Pickboy is reissuing the Metacarbonate Orange pick in certified new old stock material. Yes, it's true, Pickboy has located a limited supply of the Orange Metacarbonate material, plus a produced a new Mandarin Orange that is nearly identical to the Orange. Pickboy has also been fortunate to find the original GEAR material in Black and Red Dots, Small and Large Checkerboard, and Pink Stripes.
Many players have long held a fascination with the Metacarbonate material and its scarcity has certainly added to the myth status of the pick. So we asked the owner of Pickboy, Sadaaki Nakano, to answer some of our questions.
1) Sadaaki, why do you think Pickboy's Metacarbonate is so popular?
Our Metacarbonate picks have great tone and grip, are smooth off the strings, without much picking noise.
2) What is Metacarbonate?
Metacarbonate is name of our proprietary material. It is a three ply material of PVC and metallic sheet and it works well for playing guitar. With our 50th Anniversary approaching we asked our original material manufacturer to check his warehouse and we were fortunate that he found enough material to re-issue a good quantity of the original Orange Metacarbonate picks plus and new Mandarin Orange, and also many of our original GEAR picks. The material we use for the GEAR picks is same, it only differs because of the designs.
3) When did Pickboy make the first Metacarbonate picks?
We introduced the first Metacarbonate picks in the 1980s for heavier electric guitar playing. The Metacarbonate pick was immensely popular as alternative choice of classic celluloid flat pick.
4) What artists have played the Metacarbonate pick?
We know that Uli John Roth used Metacarbonate picks the the G3 Tour from 1989. And we produced a signature GEAR pick for Jason Becker. Unfortunately, we don't have a complete list of the artists that played Metacarbonate picks.
(ed: See list of our current Metacarbonate artist below)
5) How are you selling the reissue Metacarbonate picks?
Yes, we are reissuing the Metacarbonate picks with our PICKBOY "Packman" logo. In the very early days we used the PICKBOY "Packman" logo then we changed it to a unique Metacarbonate logo. We're using the original GEAR logo on the GEAR picks as we were able to locate our original logo stamp.
And, we're proud to announce we're producing a limited quantity (ed: only 100 to be exact) gift box set of the reissue Metacarbonate and GEAR picks. Stay tuned for details.
