What Does This Moment Make Possible?
|
Dear Readers,
Welcome to Part 2 of "What Does This Moment Make Possible." We're continuing to get submissions from our artists. So many of us seem to using this time to create and hit the shed. Check this recent article from Rolling Stone that reports sales of instrument and gear have soared and asks, "will the quarantine spark a renaissance?"
Below is the second installment sharing what our artists are doing now. We want to thank all our artists that have submitted material and look forward to hearing more music from all of you. Enjoy the music, more on the way!

Reggie Washington
Here's a tune from "Vintage New Acoustic." The album is primary on acoustic bass, but I've been playing this tune, "Fall," in many different ways & arrangements since met Wayne Shorter in 1990. He's a visionary. Peace out! "

Tomás Doncker
Doncker has created an uplifting message of hope and strength, and musical prayer for humanity. “I had been very consciously trying to find a way to express what I wanted to say to people right now. To put things in a hopeful place in the face of this crisis, a message to my fellow man. I woke up one morning singing the words ‘wherever you go.’ By the time I finished getting coffee and picked up my guitar – boom – it was a song. It all came to me at once; it almost scared me. It was almost an out of body experience, it was cathartic, emotional and very quick. I wrote the entire song in 10 mins and it was if I had known it my entire life.”

Chris Davison
For music these days, I've been recording demos for American Road's next album (country band - www.AmericanRoadMusic.com) but am unfortunately unable to share those with anyone. I did however record and play upright bass on a unique take on the national anthem with American Road, as well as playing bass on a track called "Long Ride Home" for guitarist Chris Macock. (also of The Inversion Circus)

The EP's page on Bandcamp has everything, Brian Larkin (who is fabulously talented) and Charles Elliott (from the band Abysmal Dawn, also fabulously talented) both performed vocals on this as well.

Hey Ed here’s the link to that collaboration vid I mentioned in last email. It wasn’t ready in time for the last newsletter but if you do another I’d love to be included again. The song features Jonathan Stoyanoff on bass and Michael Curtis Jr on drums. Thanks for all you do!

Sid Griffin
Written in response to a friend who contracted Covid-19, the song Don’t You Leave Us Too Soon was demoed by Sid Griffin live to a video with a few overdubs subsequently added by Chris Hillman (Guitar/Pedal Steel Guitar/Dobro) (The talented British Chris Hillman who plays with Billy Bragg, not the west coast Burrito Brother!)
The song must have some merit as Sid’s dear pal, after suffering dreadfully for two weeks, recovered completely.

"No Excuses is song I had been wanting to cover with our cover band ""The Merkins"". On the anniversary of Layne's passing (April 5th), I asked Marta if she would want to record it in our home studio where it would be the 1st vocals I've recorded there and her 1st time recording a lead vocal track. It was a fun learning experience so we asked our friends, Dave McClain (Sacred Reich, MH) and Eric Bass (Shinedown) to help complete the track. We've decided to share that experience with you all knowing that its far from perfect, as we all as humans are.
I'll be adding a ton of video content in the coming weeks. LOTS of cool things on the docket. Thanks to Scott Kirkeeng for the video edit and to Juan Urteaga for the quick mix. Much love and respect to Jerry, Mike, Sean and Layne for creating such a beautiful song. RIP LS."

I read your email and thought I'd send you this song. I just recorded it but I wrote it about 13 years ago along with the guy singing, Billy Simon. Who knew? Ha ha!
