Artist: Steve Postell
Steve is singer/songwriter/guitarist/composer and producer based out of L.A. Most of his time is spent working with The Immediate Family which features Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, and Steve. Their new single, “Cruel Twist,” was just released and is climbing up the charts, along with the video which was premiered on the Rolling Stone site. The album will come out sometime probably late fall on Quarto Valley Records.
In June, Steve recorded a cover of the song '$20 Bill' written by Tom Prasada-Rao. Says Steve about '$20 Bill,' "it's a timeless song in the tradition of 'Ohio' or 'A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall.' In the 2 weeks since Tom Prasada-Rao wrote the song, it has been covered over 100 times. I doubt that has ever happened before."

Story: Listening
|
If we can't agree at least to listen to each other, then all else is pointless. Ask yourself, would you rather play with musicians that listen to each other or musicians that expect you to listen to them? Now, extrapolate that to your life. Would you rather live in a community where people listen to each other or where everyone just shouts each other down?
This is our third story about listening. The first two articles are reprinted below for you to read if you so desire.
|
Let's Talk
We don't talk anymore. Not like we used to. Seems like we used to talk all the time. We'd pick up the phone, drop by a friend's house, or meet them out and about. Now, we post, text, and tend to do a lot more "talking" then listening.
Take some time today to really listen to someone. Start by listening to your friends and loved ones. It's good practice and you might see some immediate benefit and reward in your personal life.
Listening is a skill, a habit, something we can work to improve our whole lives. Start today.
Listen to Understand
“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”
― Stephen R. Covey
Communication is a two way street. That goes for any form of communication whether it be a conversation, text, email or letter, or a work of art such as a novel, painting, film or song. Lately it seems the emphasis has moved to creation and away from listening. Even in our listening we are busy "creating" our reply. Without listening to understanding we can't have communication. I believe it's an inherent desire of all people to be understood. It is also a unique human skill to understand, comprehend, and empathize with another person's message. As close as we can feel to one another, we can also feel miles apart and isolated when we fail to communicate. Listen, seek to understand, grow closer.
