Sonny Lanegan
Sonny Lanegan is an Italian born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. As a recording artist and stage performer, he is currently known for being the core bass player of The Dark and driving force of his own White Pulp. Never idle, Lanegan consistently produces and performs. He has performed in hundreds of live shows, seen multiple album releases, composed complete original works, and been a mainstay and influence in multiple alternative industrial groups.
Lanegan was raised in a small town in the center of Italy, but quickly grew an affinity for music. He drew inspiration from Nine Inch Nails, Tool, and Marilyn Manson. By his early teens, Lanegan joined bands as a drummer and backing vocalist. Not wishing to simply emulate, he picked up guitar and bass to compose original works.
Before directing his own projects, Sonny Lanegan found success as a founding member of tributes to his industrial influences. With Posthuman, a tribute band of Marilyn Manson, he performed in over 200 shows. Venues include Szene of Wien in Austria and Bogaloo in Zagreb, Croatia. At Europe's first conventional tribute to Marilyn Manson, Posthuman was best of show. Later, Lanegan founded The Spiral, a tribute band of Nine Inch Nails. Playing bass/guitar, and providing backing vocals, he went on to perform another 160 live shows.
As a performing artist, Sonny Lanegan is a generous source of charisma and energy. The tribute bands he contributed to provided a stage for him to satisfy a compelling force to perform, please audiences, and take part in musical expression. But, a need to create and not emulate drove him beyond the projects' completion.
Sonny Lanegan has focused his efforts into composing his own creative works in the form of White Pulp, an alternative electro-industrial rock project. He aims to compose with commercial accessibility without compromising artistic integrity. Lanegan's White Pulp, his pet project, is an infusion of varied influences with a sense of exploration.
White Pulp has seen two European releases, and most recently an American release: Vulgarity is Not a Felony, under Sony's Full Effect Records (the label of industrial supergroup Pigface and Faster Pussycat). As a central figure of The Dark (managed by Jonny Coffin of Coffin Case), Lanegan also anticipates the release of the group's first single "Teenage Angst" in September 2012. The recording and release is to be mixed and produced by Tim Palmer (producer for HIM, Pearl Jam, The Cure, and Robert Plant).
Between projects, Sonny Lanegan continues to produce. He has composed an entirely instrumental album entitled No Questions, with the focus of constructing atmospheric pieces fit for film. Five pieces were chosen for European short films. The collection as a whole, available on iTunes, has drawn affectionate comparison's to Trent Reznor's soundtrack composed for The Social Network, in which he won an Academy Award.
Sonny is currently endorsed by Osiamo LLC (specifically Pickboy Picks and R. Cocco strings). He also receives endorsement from Coffin Case and Pickbay guitar pick holder necklaces.
Welcome aboard, Sonny!
