Exclusive Interview
1) What are you working on now?
Other than being in the studio recording different types of music, I'm currently performing with eight different tribute bands. I've attached the links for each one. Because of the difference in music versatility is a must and also because of logistics travel can sometimes become a problem. This preamp fits my needs perfectly.
2) What is your musical background and influences?
Growing up as a metalhead I grew up on bands like Iron Maiden Dio AC/DC Saxon and Black Sabbath. But being a working musician in Los Angeles, I realized I needed to spread my influences to keep working. Falling in the lines of great session players like Steve Lukather, Dan Huff and Phil X I honed my skills to be more versatile. I still have a deep passion for hard music from the bands like Soilwork and In Flames.
3) What is the role of education in music?
I am currently not only a music teacher but also a special education instructor as well. Music is an integral part in both fields. Whether it is building more theory in a music performer or actually using music as speech therapy, it is very important and should be utilized more.
4) How do you feel about the current ‘state of the music industry’?
Coming out of the covid pandemic I feel the entire state of music is on reset. New bands are getting a chance to be exposed, but also older bands are being welcomed back. As a player that is in the trenches on a daily basis, there seems to be a new enthusiasm about going out to see live performers. It's a great time to be playing. I'm very happy.
5) Why do you use Mooer Preamp LIVE?
I was one of the very first users of this product. From the research I did when it came out and all the features it has to offer, it was a no-brainer. Having MIDI in the unit, being built like a tank, the multiple sounds and ease of use made this one piece of gear I needed badly. Four areas that I've come to really appreciate: the XLR out direct to the board for live performances, the use of Bluetooth for quick editing, a very accurate noise gate for High Gain settings, and the ability to tone capture has made this unit indispensable. The first day I received the unit, I was able to tone capture my 5150 3 amp and have my exact tone for a rehearsal that same evening. Having different types of gear I have been shocked by the number of compliments this preamp gets on a daily basis.
